Kitchen is the Heart of the Family"

Speaker:  Tamara Hallo

Join the monthly Indian River Genealogy Society program, The Kitchen is the Heart of the Family with Tamara Hallo on Tuesday, May 14 from 10:30 AM-12:30 PM. The program is free and open to the public and will be held at the Indian River County Main Library, Media Room.

From daily dinners to holiday gatherings, the kitchen is where family comes together. Learn how to make the most of this time together to discover more about your family and its traditions. Then, learn how easy it is to create and publish a family recipe book that can be passed down to future generations. IRGS will continue with an in-person opportunity on this topic again in the Fall to create a family cookbook.

With over 25 years of experience as an educator and a Master of Library Science degree, genealogy is a perfect complement to Hallo’s repertoire. She holds a certificate of genealogical research from Boston University and has completed ProGen, an 18-month professional genealogy study program. She completed the Advanced Genealogical Methods and Public Speaking courses at the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy Academy for Professionals, the Fundamentals of Hispanic Genealogical Research, Writing and Publishing for Genealogists, and Beginning DNA courses at the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research, and Law School for Genealogists at the Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh. She specializes in Southern United States and Miami, Florida research.

Bring a friend who may be curious about IRGS and the many benefits of membership. Individual membership is $25 annually. IRGS holds monthly programs, free and open to the public. The Society will resume monthly meetings in September. Check the website for summer socials, membership information, resources, volunteer opportunities and many areas of special interest at www.irgs.org

The program is free and open to the public.

We look forward to seeing many of our members and friends at the meeting but understand that some will not be able to attend in person.  For those who choose to join virtually, please register for the event using this link:

IRGS Newsletter Update

As most of you may know, the decision has been made to cease the monthly newsletter with the official motion being completed on Tuesday, April 16th, 2024 at the Executive Board Meeting.  I know that this was met with some dismay at our monthly member meeting.

With that said, the idea was proposed that we could switch to a Quarterly; and, this does have precedent in the society. Colleen Butler will be leading this endeavor.

The idea will be to focus primarily on genealogical information and stories, not for meeting reminders or upcoming events. I would call upon any of those in the membership who may have been concerned or upset by the ending of our monthly newsletter to make your interest known in helping with the Quarterly. Thank you.
