Genealogy Interest Groups

Genealogy Interest Groups (GIGs) are society members who come together with a common interest. There are nationality groups - they share information and research tips and study together to find their ancestors. In addition, there are other groups that focus on a specific topic. Society membership is required for continued attendance but visitors are always welcome.

Groups meet as follows:

  • DNA GIG led by Janet Hunter, meets the third Thursday at 2:00 pm
  • Family Tree Maker GIG led by Brian McQuade and Kathie Thomas, meets on the first Wednesday at 7:00 pm
  • Irish GIG led by Colleen Butler, meets on the first Tuesday at 2:00 pm
  • Scottish GIG led by Roy Thompson and Mason Russell, on the fourth Tuesday at 10:30 am

Some GIGs meet virtually via Zoom while others meet in-person at various locations. Meeting times and places are subject to change so check IRGS.org for the most current information. Announcements are also made on our Facebook page. Requests for additional information can be directed to info@irgs.org.

The following GIGs are no longer active, but may still have helpful information in their designated Members Only Resource areas:
