Indian River Genealogical Society
In 1986, the small private library of Vero Beach was adopted by the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County. The original collection of approximately 250 books was donated by IRGS. When the new library opened February 1, 1991, the genealogy collection of approximately 3000 books had a separate room with approximately 1000 square feet. Today, there is over 4000 square feet and over 40,000 titles, which includes the outside areas of the department where the microfilm and microfiche collections are located.  IRGS donates funds annually towards book purchases.
For donations of genealogical reference books or local history material including maps, photos, or other vintage material, please contact Genealogy Department Librarian Michelle Wagner. 
Guidelines as of 28 February 2021:
 The Archive Center & Genealogy Department is open by appointment only. The appointments are M-F. There are two options to choose: for mornings the appointments are from 10-12 and afternoons 2-4pm. Anyone wishing to make an appointment please call 772-400-6330 and ask to speak with Michelle. The department is closed from 1-2.
With an appointment you are able to research on the computer and use the books, scan your old photos or scrapbooks. Limited research assistance is available as social distance is still needed.
